Character is the attitude of the individual that defines being in a good or bad manner. What makes building a strong character important? Check out the following lines for the answer.

Personality and character though is linked are different concepts. The main difference is that personality is by a birth set of traits of the being, whereas Character is the set of learned traits in the due course of time.

It is to be understood that the character that is build-up can be both good and bad. This depends upon the atmosphere and the decision-making that we make in our life in various phases. It is a normal process that is happening in the lives of everyone. But the important point is that not all people can bring up a strong character. There can be many reasons for this.

At this point, the real question is- Why building a strong character is important? Let us come to know about the same in the coming lines.

Character in home, the first one built

All of us grew old after passing through the phase of childhood. The crucial point that differentiates childhood life from that of other phases is that we are clinched to our parents or guardians. We don’t generally have our own tastes or preference of our own. We just eat what is being fed to us, and go with clothing that they buy for us. 

But when we grow old, we start to create our own choice of everything. We insist on our tastes be prepared at home; we try to choose the model and color of clothing that we want. Here is where we start to build our own character. This character built at home is the first and initial stage of individual character building.

As years pass and we tend to grow into adults this character gets strengthened with some other tastes and attributes added to it.

What is a Strong Character?

Now when we understood what character means and how is it built, we need to understand the difference between a strong and a weak character. Creating a unique character with a different and customized set of tastes and preferences is a common phenomenon. But how far are we able to stand on it is where it is segregated into a strong and weak one.

For instance, I had to buy a new car. I have different perceptions and tastes. But my family wants me to go for some other model due to some other reasons. If I feel that my decision is correct, I would go for my selection. This is nothing but proving that I have a strong character.

NOTE: I don’t mean to say that I tend to disobey my family, but I want to say that I stuck to my decision because I strongly believed that it is a correct decision.

Strong Character maybe not important in some instances, but in some others, it may be the only need of the day.

Why building a Strong Character important?

Many instances need us to retain the strength of our character. I take the chance to narrate a short chronicle to demonstrate the need for strong character in the coming lines.

There were two brothers Ram and Tej in my town. They lived together for years enjoying the joint property. One day, Ram had a loss in his business and entered a debt of huge amount in no time. To come over it, he had to sell one of those joint assets. After days passed, the two brothers decided to divide and enjoy the property shares individually.  During this process, they got into a complication. Tej argued that Ram’s Share should be less compared to him as he sold one of the joint assets to plaster his sudden personal debts. Ram was not ready for this, this created differences between them. Tej never left that fact and after a prolonged case for years he was able to get the bigger share of the property.

There is only one reason to narrate the chronicle above. This is the best example to illustrate the importance of having a strong character, Tej had a strong character. He believed that what he argued was the right thing, thus stood on it and waited with patience. If tej would have left it, he would never get the additional share in the property.

Many such instances demand us to have a strong character. It is because there may arise instances where we need to stand for our rights and wishes, having a strong character can bring about the change we need to have.

Bottom Line

People have a character of their own. We can only fight for our demands if the character is at least equally strong as the opposition. This is the need of the day in many instances in this society where there is every chance that we have to stand on what we want.

It is never too late to start anything. Let's strive to build a stronger character today before it is too late. because, if we don't have ample strength in our character we tend to act and work as per the wishes of others.
