Taking correct decisions has been the only
way for peaceful life. This is the most common perception for many people. All of
our well wishers and our elders have suggested the same. In all self help books
and other sources suggest us the same. But what is the correct decision? Is it
always same in all the contexts? Is it same for one and all? Let us put light
in this scenario in this episode.
What is correct decision?
Decision is nothing but the selection of choices that we have at a particular level/stage. In any level of life, there are generally more than one ways to come out of a problem, or to make the situation better. The right selection among the available ones actually makes the difference in life.
For example: There were two friends Ram and Rao. They both were good friends and were actors by profession. They have seen a good time in their career for initial few years. After the arrival of new actors, their market began to hamper. They gradually lost their grip among audience. Opportunities reduced. Both were in deep trouble similar to each other. Despite of similar trouble, their decisions were different. Rao planned for a business with his savings which would help him with finances in case the situation worsens in acting career. Whereas feared by the scenario, Ram decided to leave off to his home town taking leave from his career. Years passed, and Rao began to get offers again. And gradually, Rao almost gained his fame in the same. Whereas Ram had nothing after he left for home town.
In the perspective of career, the decision of Rao was absolutely correct.
Is it always the same?
The question that may arise at this stage- is the correct decision same all the time? The answer is quite hypothetical. This may be yes as well as no. Because, the decision is a pure factor of the current scenario. If the scenario is same as that of the previous consideration, then the decision may be same.
For example: in the case mentioned above, Rao was strong enough to carry forward his acting career, thus he decided not to leave and waited for offers to come back to him. In case he had health issues, or felt that he no more good enough to compete with young competitors, it would be a wise decision to exit as Ram has done.
Is it same for all?
The answer is almost answered in the previous sections. It is also hypothetical question, because if the scenario is same for the two persons, then the decisions would also be similar to them and vice versa.
There was a saying that I heard in my childhood. Never opt for any course or career just because your friend has taken it or someone has suggested it. We should only go for something if we have a deep urge to have or possess it. Only in that case we would be confident enough to achieve it and the chances of our success also increase drastically.
The Chronicle:
There lived two princes. They had everything in their kingdom- a good father and king, Mother, Beautiful girls, loyal courtiers and what not. They grew up with all sorts of comforts and trainings. They are expected to be the greatest kings in the coming times. They were so powerful that a single prince can destroy a whole army.
One day, they had to go to nearby jungle as a part of their training session. After they returned, they were shocked with the visuals of the kingdom. The kingdom was all destroyed to ground. They came to know that an invader came and attacked the kingdom all of a sudden- looted and destroyed the entire kingdom. Nothing was left for them in the kingdom. They had no one left. Outraged at the visuals, they decided to take revenge.
They started to reside in the nearby jungle and started planning for attacking the enemy. As planned, they entered into the heart of the enemy kingdom, the Palace of King. As they were about to attack the king, they were caught by officials from behind. They were put to prison. King order not to offer food to them for 30 days. If anyone was alive after this span, he (they) would be set free.
The span was short, but the punishment was so hard for the princes. It was impossible for a human to stay without food for 30 days. The princes brainstormed for 2 days and came to a deadly decision. They decided that one brother will kill the other and feed on him for living. The elder one agreed to sacrifice his life. The younger prince killed the elder one and fed on him for rest of his days in the prison. As promised, he was released after 30 days. The moment he came out of the prison, he slashed off the head of the king in one shot in the middle of court, and thus the revenge was accomplished.
Interpretation(s):
The chronicle that I stated is weird but has been a good example of decision making in life. After a beautiful kingdom has turned to ashes, the brothers had no other goal than taking revenge. It would not be wrong if we comment that they were still alive for the same. But when they were thrown into the prison with such a strict rule, they had no other option to accomplish revenge. Here the relation and humanity would not come in way of these brothers. It was because in the scenario in which they were put into, they had no space to think about relations, humanity and other factors. The only goal they had is to come out of prison and kill the king. This made the brothers go for such disturbing decision.
Therefore, right decision may change with time, place and many reasons. It may not be ethical sometimes, it may not be fair for some other, but there may arise some contexts where we have to be strong to take the choice and move forward.
One good decision can change the entire life, so is one Bad decision. Therefore, it is crucial to take right decision in life what so ever the situation is. It has placed in almost every place in our life- our workplace, families and so on. Whatever may be the scenario is, what remains crucial is nothing but the decision that we take. Thus it is important to be a correct one for us.
