Life Lessons (Episode 5- The Stumbling Block)

Hi friends and welcome to my blog. I'm among those people who indulge in education and earning simultaneously. Today, I was about to leave for my work, one of my friend called me asking for some help in the academics. I replied," I'm leaving for my work I'll reply you in the evening". This was not the first time. I got many such calls and from same person(s). This turned into a Problem to me.

Well what is a problem? Something it is either be a place, circumstance or a  person which actually hampers or tries to hamper our flow or the requirements in life. This situation that causes hesitation or difficulty is known as the Stumbling Block. Well in what aspect are we interpreting stumbling block here? We will discuss in the following blog.

In this blog we will be seeing what stops us from taking various responsibilities in life. What is the stumbling block for us towards taking our responsibilities? The answer is very complicated when we start to decode it, but the answer is very simple when we answer in one word. If I ask you, what is stopping you to take responsibilities? The answer is you yourself.

This definitely sounds chuckle some, but it is a bitter truth. Let me narrate a short story in this context.

There was a boy named Ram. He was an introvert person right from his childhood. His father Venkatesh always cared and controlled him in every aspect. Due to care and love , Ram never felt the need to learn how to live. He was just a innocent school going kid, with almost negligible practical knowledge. But the good part was Ram was a good student in School. Due to this Venkatesh never had any complaint about him, and helped him pursue education and not involving in any household activities or responsibilities to him.

Every thing was going absolutely fine until Ram reached secondary school. Ram was in 10+2 when Venkatesh expired. The sudden demise of Venkatesh has created havoc in his family. The loss of him was biggest blow. Venkatesh was so caring towards his family that, he never allowed Ram to take any responsibilities of home or his business.

But now the scenario has absolutely turned around. All the responsibilities that were previously taken by Venkatesh fell on his family. Ram was in depression for several days just rationing what would be his future in this scenario where he didn't knew anything in the real world over there.

But in contrast to his agitation, things gradually turned in favor to them. Ram started taking responsibilities. He started with the simplest of them. Initially, he went out to bring some groceries, for paying electricity and telephone bills. Gradually, he started noticing that he was actually getting matured. He started to maintain house with the income family got, planned the expenses and savings.

And in few years he actually got ahead of thinking compared to all his childhood classmates. Every one including his relatives and others were proud of him for his way of balancing his life from the tragedy he faced.

Well is this a miracle that happened with Ram? I don't think so. One evening, he sat and tried to analyze how all this happened. It was the same person before and after the demise of Venkatesh. But the transformation was really remarkable. Then how did this happen?

Before the demise of Venkatesh, Ram never got a chance to prove himself as a responsible person, neither he tried to prove himself. Ram always thought that getting a good grade in his academics was only factor to get successful in life. On the other hand, Venkatesh too due to his care and attitude to not disturb Ram in studies, never gave any responsibility to him. This turned into a Stumbling Block for Ram in his life.

After the demise of Venkatesh, Ram had no other option than to get into the mud. He started to take responsibilities with ease. The fact was Ram was always a responsible person, but only after the demise of his father that he indulged.

Same is the case of all of us. We all are capable enough to do anything. The only two reasons that acts as Stumbling Block is either we have neither tried to do it, or contexts in our past life have not given us the opportunity to do so. Therefore to the best of my perception, I can say that whenever we feel that we cannot or not eligible for any task/responsibility, then there exists a Stumbling block. This Stumbling block may be you yourself or your past instances.
