LIFE LESSONS FROM EPICS (EPISODE 19, LIFE LESSONS)

Hi friends and welcome to Life Lessons.

No matter whether we believe in god, we definitely believe in the logics behind anything. So was I previously. But soon after listening to few stories in verses like Mahabharata, I changed my perspective. There were many instances that proved me that there was logic behind these verses/stories. I want to narrate one such important story that influenced me a lot.

My Chronicle:

Few years ago, I was in my granny’s home. One evening I was sitting in balcony. I felt bored because there was no power. Granny noticed my trouble. She called over all siblings to her including me. She insisted to narrate a story to toss out boredom. She narrated a part of Mahabharata which I’m narrating in the following lines.

After the Kurukshetra was over, all Pandavas decided to meet Dhritarashtra and talk to him and his family. Lord Krishna was aware of what is going to happen if they visit him, thus he insisted to avoid the plan.  But Pandavas wanted to visit him. Therefore Krishna insisted to accompany them to Hastinapur for their safety. As decided they were off to Hastinapur and reached there on time

Unexpectedly, they were happily welcomed by the hosts. Finally they met Dhritarashtra. After some time, he wanted to hug all the Pandavas as a gesture to congratulate them on victory in the war. Pandavas were happy on this gesture. All the Pandavas went forward to hug Dhritarashtra one by one. After some time, the chance of Bhima came. Dhritarashtra was aware that Bhima was the one who defeated and killed Duryodhana. So do Lord Krishna. When Bhima was about to hug Dhritarashtra, Krishna pushed Bhima back and brought a metal statue of him before Dhritarashtra. Since Dhritarashtra was visually impaired, he presumed that it was Bhima himself and hugged it so tightly that at once the statue broke out to powder in no time. All the Pandavas were shocked at this visual and the power of Dhritarashtra. It is said that Bhima has power of 1000 elephants, but the lesser known fact was that Dhritarashtra has power of 50,000 elephants.

Observations:

Here we can/need to observe two important aspects:

1.       We all aware of the fact that Bhima was very powerful, many of us are not aware that Dhritarashtra is much more powerful.

2.       A question that from where does Lord Krishna bring the metal statue of Bhima to the spot.

Interpretation(s)

Lets us see the interpretations based on the observations above:

1.       There are people who were much more powerful who didn’t participate in Kurukshetra. For example: Parasuram, brother of Lord Krishna has so much of power that he could have winded up the entire war within a day. We can get a wonderful observation from here. There are people who are more capable then the people who are currently in field. For instance: We see many movies where the artists are not capable enough to satisfy the characterization they get despite the fact that they have been provided with opportunity. On the other hand, there are people who are talented and are not offered chances. We have recently found such instances from platforms like Tik-Tok and Snack Video via incredible performances. Not because they have not proved themselves in movies, it doesn’t mean they are not capable. Thus it is better to restate, “The best person in any field is actually the best among those who tried himself (herself) in that field”.

2.       The second postulate is the question from where Lord Krishna has instinctively brought out the metal statue of Bhima. To know this let us go back to other verse of Mahabharata. After Pandavas were off to exile for 14 years. Duryodhana was well aware that after their return, war was inevitable. He was also aware that Bhima would come forward to face him in the war. And he also knows that he was not capable to face Bhima. Thus, he procured a metal statue of Bhima to practice fight with (punch it). The statue which Krishna brought to Dhritarashtra was none other than the same Statue that Duryodhana procured. So what is the point to be learned from this observation?

It is often misinterpreted that Krishna has done some type of magic to bring the statue. It was not true. In the same way- whatever we see as a miracle or magic, it is a magic until we find out the logic behind it.

I hope, we are so far clear about the observations and interpretations of the chronicle I stated above. This example would make it clear that these epics like Mahabharata are not illogical. But the fact is we have never interpreted it logically. Once we could interpret them with perfect logic , these would really do wonders in guiding us through ups and downs of life.
